NINE EXCITING THINGS TO DO THIS SPRING IN THE SMOKIES

There is so much to love about the Great Smoky Mountains in spring. Trees unfurling their leaves. Flowers erupting in color. Furry friends awaking from a long winter's nap. Easter's story of renewal. School breaks and family time.

1. A SPRING BREAK TO REMEMBER

2. SPRING CORVETTE EXPO AND CHEVELLES SHOWDOWN (PIGEON FORGE)

CORVETTE EXPO: "The corvette expo will feature events including a corvette cruise, swap meet, Horsepower and Hotrods, sales corral, Park N’ Show, a judged competition show and more."

CHEVELLES SHOWDOWN: "Come out to the LeConte Center for the Chevelles in the Smokies Showdown. Spectator parking and kid’s admission is free with an adult ticket."

3. THE GREAT SMOKY EASTER ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW (GATLINBURG)

"The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts show hosts unique hand made gifts created by artisan members of the community at the annual Easter show at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. This free-to-the-public show, filled with handcrafted work of demonstrating local artisans and featuring guest craftspeople from all around the USA, is an event to visit while in Gatlinburg. Unique handcrafted gifts and products produced by members of Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community are placed on display and offered for sale as they host their annual Easter show at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. 4. EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE AT OBER MOUNTAIN (GATLINBURG)

"Ober Mountain’s Annual Easter Sunrise Service will be enhanced by the beauty of the Smokies when the community and its visitors gather at Ober Mountain for this memorable worship service. The 30-40-minute mountain service will begin just before actual sunrise and be led by local pastors of the Gatlinburg Ministerial Association. The offering collected during the service will be used by the Association, assisting those in need."

5. THE SPRING ROD RUN (PIGEON FORGE)

7. THE 73RD ANNUAL SPRING WILDFLOWER PILGRIMAGE (NATL. PARK)

"Come join us for the 73rd annual Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The SWFP is an annual nonprofit event features professionally-guided walks, exhibits, and other learning opportunities to explore the region's rich natural and cultural resources. Pilgrims from more than 40 states and several countries make the pilgrimage each year to learn more about fungi, ferns, wildflowers, trees and shrubs, medicinal plants, insects (terrestrial and aquatic), salamanders and snakes, birds, mammals (bats to bears), journaling, art and photography, and park history."

8. MUSIC IN THE MOUNTAINS SPRING PARADE

Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and youth mentor Cal Ripken, Jr., namesake of the Ripken Experience Pigeon Forge, will lead the way in the 2023 Music in the Mountains Spring Parade. The parade kicks off on the Parkway with local and visiting marching bands, cold-air character balloons, local attraction and entertainment representatives and more! Make plans to attend this celebration of the city’s rich musical heritage and look for surprise music performances around town. Formerly referred to as the Dolly Parade or Dolly Parton’s Homecoming, Pigeon Forge’s annual springtime parade has since been renamed Music in the Mountains.

9. HANDS ON GATLINBURG

May 5-7, 2023 (from our friends at Gatlinburg.com)

"Hands on Gatlinburg is an immersive three day experience that allows you to learn from The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community which features over 100 artists and craftsmen. It’s home to the largest group of independent artisans in North America. These professional craftsmen have spent years and even decades perfecting their art. Now, you can learn from them and become a pro yourself whether you are an expert or beginner in the arts & crafts world. The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community is hosting several do-it-yourself style classes with all art supplies and materials provided and you are encouraged to take as many of the classes offered during this hands on event. There are a wide variety of classes offered including everything from pottery to soap-making. By the end, you’ll not only have a new skill set to show off, but memories that will last a lifetime."
