Gatlinburg Cabin Rental FAQs

Once in Gatlinburg, go to traffic light #10 (there is a Marathon station on the right corner). Turn onto Ski Mountain Road and follow it one-quarter mile up the mountain; our office will be on the right (440 Ski Mountain Road). We are open seven days a week, 363 days a year (we close on Thanksgiving and Christmas days). We reserve the right to close early on Christmas Eve. Regular daily hours are 8:00am-4:30pm.

Yes, you can make same day reservations by phone only. Please call our office at 865-436-5277 for availability and pricing.

If you arrive after office hours, your check-in packet will be located in the rack directly outside and to the right of our office's front door. It will have your name on it, and all of the information you need for your reservation is inside, including how to access your property.

For just 10% of the rent and administrative fee, Mountain Laurel Chalets will refund the entire amount of payments already made, minus the cost of the guarantee (within plan guidelines). This optional plan allows the purchaser to cancel up to 15 days from check-in for 1-4 bedroom properties and 60 days for 5+ bedrooms. For cancellations providing more than the allowed 15 or 60-day options, Mountain Laurel Chalets will refund the entire amount of payments made, minus the cost of the plan (10% of the reservation total). For cancellations made inside the allowed time frames, when the cancellation period has expired, you will be allowed to reschedule your stay in the same property within one year but no monies will be refunded. Rebooked stays will be at the current rate for the property and no monies will be refunded if the rebooked stay is less than the canceled stay. With a reschedule, all payments from the canceled stay, less the cost of the originally purchased plan, will be transferred to the

rebooking, and regular booking terms apply. You will be allowed to purchase the plan (an additional 10% of the reservation total) for one rebooking only; thus allowing you to reschedule your reservation for another year. If you purchase the plan for your rebooked reservation and you cancel, you will NOT be refunded; you will simply be offered a one-year reschedule option that begins on the date of cancellation. Any funds not applied to a stay occurring within the one-year period will be forfeited. All reschedules are required to re-book the same rental property. No blackouts are applicable. No plan is available for purchase after a second reschedule, and any funds held after one year from the second reschedule will be forfeited. It is your responsibility to ensure the stay is within the one-year time frame. Plan costs are non-refundable. If you opt not to purchase The Plan, no refunds are offered beyond those in our regular cancellation policy (90% of rent paid, less fees and applicable taxes dependent on size of rental unit - please see rental agreement for further information). Absolutely no refunds will be issued for early departures for any reason, including (but not limited to) weather, road conditions, power, heating/cooling, and personal emergencies. We are not responsible for such occurrences, and cannot be held responsible for them. This plan must be selected at the time of booking.

From I-40, take exit 407 (Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville) and turn right off the exit ramp. Follow the road (Highway 66) approximately nine miles to Sevierville. In Sevierville, the first large intersection meets Highway 441. Go straight through the intersection onto Highway 441 South (you will pass a McDonald's on the right). Continue 13 miles on Highway 441 South through Pigeon Forge and into Gatlinburg.

Almost all our cabins are centrally located on Ski Mountain, directly above the city of Gatlinburg. Our Gatlinburg cabins range from .25 to 4 miles from our office, which is at the bottom of Ski Mountain. From Gatlinburg, we are six miles to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. We can suggest routes off the mountain that will help you avoid the traffic in downtown Gatlinburg during the busy season. You couldn't be closer to Great Smoky Mountains National Park - many of our cabins are actually on the boundary line. To drive into the park, simply drive down the mountain via Ski Mountain Road, and you will be at the park entrance at the intersection of traffic light #10 and Parkway. The Sugarland's Visitors Center and park headquarters are two miles inside the park.

Gatlinburg is served by McGhee-Tyson Airport (TYS) in Alcoa, Tennessee. It is about 40 miles from Gatlinburg, and we recommend renting a car rather than taking a taxi (you will need the car to get up and down the mountain while here). Most major car rental companies are represented inside the airport terminal. To get here from the airport: Turn left on Highway 129 toward Knoxville. Follow it for 2.5 miles to Hwy 168 (John Sevier Highway). Follow John Sevier Highway for 7.2 miles to Highway 441 (Chapman Highway). Turn right onto Chapman Highway and follow it 19 miles to Sevierville. Turn right at the second traffic light in Sevierville (signs will point you toward Gatlinburg). Continue 13 miles to Gatlinburg.

Bears are out and about around Gatlinburg all year long. Chances are good you'll see one—sometimes several—during your visit. They make frequent stops at rental properties and they are highly skilled at opening car doors (no joke), so make sure you lock your vehicle every single time you leave it. It's also common to see bears as you drive through the area, especially on Ski Mountain, so keep your eyes peeled while you're on the road. Remember, bears are cute and they look cuddly, but you're wise to keep your distance and admire from afar. It's better for both you and the bears that way!

The majority of our chalets are located on the same mountain as Ober Mountain (formerly Ober Gatlinburg), the ski resort. There is no lodging at the resort. To access Ober Mountain, you have two options: 1) drive downtown and ride the aerial tram up to the slopes, or 2) drive to the resort and park on property. Skiing typically starts around Christmas and runs through mid-February. If the weather cooperates, it could open sooner or stay open longer. The resort has terrific snowmaking equipment, but it must be below freezing for the slopes to be maintained. Ski and snowboard equipment rental is available at the resort.

None of the small streams on Ski Mountain are large enough to support fish, but there is great trout fishing in downtown Gatlinburg. As a matter of fact, Gatlinburg has a trout rearing program in a local facility, and the streams are stocked every Thursday (no fishing is allowed on Thursdays). Certain state and local regulations apply, so check with our Chamber of Commerce for specifics. You can obtain a trout fishing brochure that explains all the details by calling City Hall at 865-436-1400.

Fireplace season is Oct. 1—Feb. 28. Firewood is available for purchase at the office. Members of our Family First loyalty program (comprised of guests who have stayed with us more than five times) receive complimentary firewood bundles based on their length of stay.

The leaves usually peak anywhere from mid to late October, and the color lasts well into November. The crisp fall nights and spectacular color show make this a perfect time to kick back and enjoy the view next to a crackling fire. Snow is a little more unpredictable. The best window for snow is after Christmas and through mid-February. If you are lucky enough to see snow, be prepared for it. Four-wheel-drive vehicles or tire chains are required on the mountain when snow falls. Snow removal is usually prompt on Ski Mountain Road, but it can take a few days on the side roads—be ready!
