Pleasant Retreat
We had a pleasant stay at View Catcher. Our stay was in November 2022 and with most of the leafs already off the trees we had a great view from the deck. The Chalet it self is modest and comfortable with a spacious open floor layout. We had all the comforts of home available to us in this quaint mountain home. Also from the time we checked in and even beyond check out the team at Mountain Laurel Chalets was always there if we needed them for anything.

Good location, but cabin needs some TLC
This review isn't a reflection on Mtn Laurel Chalets, just on this location. We recently stayed at Viewcatcher over the weekend and were pretty disappointed upon arrival. The cabin felt unclean when walking in, and felt like no one had been inside for at least a month. The cabin itself was... Fine. But paying that amount of money for a vacation stay, I was expecting it to be more like the pictures. The bathrooms and interior could really use some TLC and renovations to make it feel much homier. The views online from the deck looked amazing, if you were there 10 years ago. The trees are very overgrown that we could hardly see the mountain view we specifically booked the cabin for. A few other concerns have been passed onto Mtn Laurel Chalets. Ultimately we did make the best out of it, and MLC helped us have a wonderful vacation in the end. We've stayed with MLC before, and will likely book through them again, just not this cabin. I feel that the owners of the house need to take a look at it to renovate, and it would be a top notch property.

Bottom of the list
This review is by no means a review of MLC as a company. We have used them for the past 14yrs and live them. However- it is time the owner of this home do a complete renovation. It is EXTREMELY dated and very used. The bathrooms are falling apart and cheaply done, rotted wood on the house, doors that stay open, the stairs are VERY odd and dangerous (each step is a different height).

I’m not sure when the last time this house was stayed in but there was a very burnt pop tart in the toaster, and very moldy garbage can, the dishes had a film on them and the floors were very dusty/greasy feeling and the kitchen as a whole was glossed over by housekeeping. This will not stop us staying with MLC at all, but the owners of the house really need to completely gut it and start over.

Viewcatcher: Could be if the trees were trimmed.
Living area was very comfortable. Kitchen had everything that was needed. The directions given to us had some difficult roads. Taking Wiley Oakley Dr. off of Ski Mountain Rd. Made the drive a lot easier. Because the A/C was set to go no lower than 68 degrees, the loft bedroom was very warm and the main level bedroom was. Little warm. Living area was cool. The trees out back were overgrown and the view was blocked severely. We went back to the chalet one day at 3:30pm, atthe end of July and there was a large black bear that had just passed out chalet and was walking up the road sniffing for food.

The view was amazing, the deck very relaxing. Steps down to front door and up to 2nd floor were challenging for me (steep). I would grade it "no frills"" but very comfortable."

Lovely, peaceful spot with great view
This was a lovely little spot. The views were wonderful and the location quiet and restful. The lodging was well laid out. We appreciated the gas fireplace module after using the hot tub, and while the space was small, they made the most of it.
There were several minor maintenance issues. The chalet is older and has been updated but the update was minimal so it still feels a bit tired. The things that were easily fixed, we informed the management company and they seemed receptive. (I know they are not always told about these things.) One item I will mention to hopefully prevent others from destroying a meal is that the oven runs 25-50 degrees too hot. Other issues will take more work, like the very noisy furnace and the complete lack of insulation under the exposed front part of the house that makes it impossible to keep the temperature even.
Overall we enjoyed our visit and I would certainly stay again because of the location and layout. I think it was a good value and the maintenance issues were very manageable.

Wonderful Thanksgiving Chalet
The view is great day and night. An area of the Christmas lights on the Gatlinburg strip are visible at night. Location is great. Easy to get to and close to downtown Gatlinburg. The staff are wonderful. We have been staying at Mt. Laurel Chalets for seven years and never disappointed.

Family vacation
We vacation in Gatlinburg every year with my wife’s family. They stay at a separate cabin and my wife, daughter and I stay somewhere else. This cabin is convenient and nice for one family. It is dated but overall, we had a good experience.

Two night stay
The View archer is in a great location. The view was great. As for the amenities, the mattresses were horrible. They were very uncomfortable and outdated. They need to be replaced. The overall condition of the property was good. It was clean, but outdated as well. The stairs to the door need to have the grip pads replaced because one of our guests slipped and fell because of the wet surface.

Great Week!
The Viewcatcher is a perfect spot for 4 people to stay. It's location is beautiful once you survive the drive up the mountain... lol! It is the perfect distance from town with very little traffic heading in at all times of the day. The beds were a little squeaky, but they were comfortable. We would definitely go back for another stay.

Cozy, comfy and clean... but needs some TLC. Updated blinds, working windows, replace non-slip pads on outside steps and fresh paint inside and out would make this place absolutely stunning.

Beautiful, relaxing.
We so enjoyed our stay at Viewcatcher! And what a view! The Chalet was clean and welcoming. I was up to enjoy each sunrise, so breathtaking. We really enjoyed the rockers on the deck, watching the mountains, and enjoying the piece and quiet. This chalet was very private. Seeing Gatlinburg all lit up at night from the loft was pretty cool! I would like to recommend a step stool to get in and out of the hot tub for us short legged people. Yes, we would come back to Viewcatcher. I will say, I did miss seeing and speaking with the staff at Mountain Laurel, always so friendly and welcoming . I certainly do understand, we all have to be so careful. Hopefully soon, we can get back to normal. We always enjoy our stay with MLC, I can honestly say we have never been disappointed. The mountains are my therapy, I love that we can experience them from a home away from home that is so close to the SMNP.. A special thank you to your cleaning staff, I know they are working extra hard to make sure these homes are extra clean and safe for your guest. As always, I can’t wait to come back. Thank you!

Good view not the best place
Very good view and location. We went when the weather was nice, but the roads are steep. The house is due for many upgrades like exposed wire, unsteady stairs, and the deck has a metal patchwork over the wood deck. It seems that their have been baindaids out over some of the issues in the house. There are not many kitchen supplies to cook, so do not plan on cooking much in the cabin.
Anonymous - Posted: 3/11/2021
Thanks for the review. We appreciate your comments. Because Viewcatcher is inside the city limits, the house undergoes a safety inspection every year by the fire marshal. The piece of metal was the location of a charcoal grill, but the city no longer allows charcoal grills on the decks, so the grill was removed. Not sure about the exposed wires, but we will definitely look into that. You didn't specify if it was the exterior or interior stairs that you found unsteady, but again, the house has passed a safety inspection every year, so it is not a safety issue. The cabins are stocked from a inventory list, so housekeeping will check to make sure everything that is normally stocked is in the kitchen. We hope you are able to revisit our beautiful mountains again soon.

Cozy Cabin
Great views when the sun came out. The location was great very quick to get into Gatlinburg. We had an electrical and plumbing issue and the management company promptly sent to gentlemen out to address the situation and resolved them quickly. All the attractions were open so it was pretty busy in town. We ate at the Park Grill, the food was decent and the prices matched. The parking at the Park grill is bad if you own a truck, popped a few curbs to get out of my spot. We also ate at the Cherokee Grill and Steakhouse, great food and service, the price was good too. The only issue we had is that the cabin was not very clean upon arrival dust everywhere, as well as dirty and mold in the bathrooms. If the management company is going to charge extra money for cleaning because of COVID19 then it should be clean.

Nice stay
My wife and I stayed 5 nights . View is excellent over the city of Gatlenburg. House is clean. Hottub was great under the stars. Had some snow but was plowed out in the morning. Had no problems with travel to town. If you are physically challenged with stairs, this is not your place. We had cold weather so downstairs floor was cold. Otherwise we had a good time here.

Thanks for the review and we are glad to hear you enjoyed your time at Viewcatcher. The snow was so beautiful this time and not bad on the roads at all. Great location and view chalet not so much
This chalet was very easy to get to and has a great view but that’s about it. The interior needs a complete overhaul. From shower faucets not working properly to the front door being messed up the hot tub temperature gauge broke and other things in disrepair. This chalet just needs a complete upgrade

Wonderful Stay
Viewcatcher was great. It’s a little older and has some wear evident but the chalet is clean and well appointed. The location is great and the views are awesome. Sunrise and sunset are both fantastic, with sunset spraying pink light all over the mountains.

We also had a breaker trip for the hot tub, but it appears to be caused by getting water on the control panel which is a little loose. If you’re careful, this isn’t any problem.

Thanks for providing the setting for a great trip!

Quick trip
The viewcatcher is in a great location to be secluded. Conveniently located 8 minutes out of town yet feels like 45 minutes when you see the view. The house itself could use some work. It rained/misted a majority of the time we were there and the stairs heading down don’t have much traction especially when wet. The front door strike plates are falling off so be careful opening and closing the door. The hot tub is stuck on 104*. The upstairs shower is small. As with most houses they settle and this one has had its fair share. But who cares about the house. It was a place to lay our head and clean up after 2 days or beautiful hiking and in town site seeing.

Great view, not great upkeep of property.
First of all I will say the positives about this property. The view is fantastic! Sitting in the hot tub overlooking the mountains was very nice. Also pretty secluded, although not too much were you feel isolated.

Now on to the not so nice. It's an old cabin. Maybe I'm used to old cabins being from Michigan, but even by my standards this was old and not updated at all. The stairs down are very steep (you're on a ledge, understandable), and there is really only parking for 1 car.

The general maintenance of the property leaves a lot to be desired. Kitchen and bathrooms are old. Furniture is newer, but not something you can lounge on during rainy days to watch tv. We didn't experience the ant problems others have said, but again you're in the woods, bugs happen, we saw a few. Dishwasher/furnace are old and make loud noises all the time.

The most disappointing part was the cleanliness. I am in no way a germaphobe, but I was disappointed. I personally wiped down the cabinets that were sticky and covered in grease. I ran most of the kitchenware through the dishwasher before using it because it was covered in a layer of something. Dust on everything. Spiderwebs everywhere. Makes you wonder about what else wasn't cleaned.

I'm conflicted about this because we did have a really great stay, but all my husband and I could talk about was how they could take $100 and go to Walmart and make the cabin much more comfortable (replace silverware, old cookware etc). Then I looked at the paperwork and realized we were being charged a $200 cleaning fee. I'm not sure who is being ripped off here, me or the people who hired the cleaners. My advice would be a deep clean every once in awhile, especially during COVID.

needed vacation
it is a nice cabin just needs some maintenance. The hot tub works as long as you don't turn on the lights in the hot tub then it will blow the breaker. Had some bothersome neighbors the last two nights but not fault of renters. I would be willing to use cabin again.

David, thanks for your review. Viewcatcher is listed as a value vacation and as such the price reflects less amenities compared to our deluxe, premium and luxury homes. We will check on the breaker but please know we price and label the homes to reflect the accommodations.

Beautiful chalet, nestled high above Gatlinburg
Great chalet, clean and updated and very comfortable. Being nestled in a cove high above the burg meant quiet nights, lots of bird watching and a very private deck. View was south East and trees framed the mountains east of LeConte in a beautiful way. Chalet had all the necessary items to cook great meals and enjoy a glass of wine or two! Note the No grill policy so your meals are planned accordingly :)

BEST view possible..Treturous stairs to get up and down inside and out. Clean inside until we got swamped with ants. Hot tub was filthy and the entire cabin was covered in moss, extremely slippery. Cabinets in kitchen were coming apart. This picture is VERY MISLEADING.

Wish we could of seen a bear. They were all around us you could here them, maybe next time

Thanks Jon for your review. Mountain living sometimes has its drawbacks (parking in some places) but the views seem to overcome those small inconveniences. Hope to see you again soon.

A perfect house on the hill!
What a wonderful little house! It was just the right size for me, and the location is fantastic - easy to drive to, easy up and down the hill ... the rooms were comfortable, and the deck offers a fantastic view of the Smokies. This is high on my list of places I would stay again!

Wonderful Time in Tennessee
Our stay was wonderful. The chalet was clean and very nice. The front desk was friendly, welcoming, funny and helpful as well. Also, I lost a very expensive pair of headphones while on this trip.. I wasn't sure where I had left them or if they were even left in the rental. They searched the chalet and they found them under a night stand AND sent them back to me. We will be back to Tennessee and we would 100% rent from Mountain Laurel Chalets again.

Fall Break Getaway
We went to Gatlinburg for a long weekend during Fall Break. The management company was, and has always been, great to work with. The chalet was in a great location with an awesome view. It was a quick drive, not too far up the mountain. We loved the coziness of the chalet. Great for a couple or small family. We will definitely be back.

Vacationing in Gatlinburg
This was our first time in the Smokey's. A friend of ours recommended mountain laurel cabins as a place to stay as he has been there in the past. Didn't want to do a lot of researching so we took him up on his advice. Sure glad we did because we enjoyed the cabin and the Smokey's. My wife and I picked the "Viewcatcher"" cabin because it was somewhat secluded and near the top of the road where the view was grand. The cabin had two bedrooms and very clean and accomadating"

View Catcher
The cabin was very clean and well kept. I woke up every morning to a breathtaking view of the Smoky Mountains. The balcony gives you the best views while having a cup of coffee. The only dim spots were the living room furniture; perfectly kept up, but for the day we wanted to lounge around the cabin, the couch there did not fit that need to well. Also the lock on the bedroom upstaris did not work. But the pros greatly outnumbered the only two cons. When we come back we would like to stay at the view catcher.

Everything here is fantastic. One bed and bath up and bed and bath down. Laundry room in the downstairs bathroom. They have a dishwasher and all kinds of cooking utensils. Only complaint is the stairs are steep so coming down you feel like you're falling and up you're hiking.. Still would stay here everytime hands down!!

Weekend Getaway
Our overall stay was good. We have stayed in Mt Laurel Chalets many times and our stay in Viewcatcher was a little less than what we usually expect. We were disappointed in the tiny size of the 2nd floor bathroom. The cabin itself could use an overall upgrade. There was only one tv and it did not work well. We should have spent a little more money and stayed in another cabin. We will stay with Mt. Laurel again, but probably not in Viewcatcher.

Beautiful view
We rented this chatlet for 4 nights just after Mother's Day. Unfortunately we arrived after 6 so when we got to the house and realized the stove, fridge, and oven didn't work we had to wait till the next day to do anything about it. We told maintenance about the problems and they said that the fridge takes a while to get cold when you put a bunch of warm groceries in it. It was never cool in the first place when we arrived and the freezer was only slightly cool. That day they fixed the stove but did nothing about the oven. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps I did not make it clear that the oven itself also did not turn on. The fridge they did not fix until Thursday, we checked out on Friday. It was obnoxious that half the appliances did not work but my friends and I still had a great time together. The staff was very apologetic and offered to move us the second day for free but the chatlet was very easy to find and had such a great view we did not want to leave. We spend every night and morning on the back porch enjoying the weather and the mountains. The rocking chairs were very comfortable and I can't wait to return again!! I would recommend it to a friend. Even if things are broken the staff does everything they can to fix it and were very polite about it!

Honeymoon Haven describes this quaint chalet! My wife and I enjoyed our honeymoon to Gatlinburg and are already planning a return visit in the Fall. We enjoyed the secluded location and would recommend to anyone planning a romantic get away or family vacation.

Christmas trip
We enjoyed your house very much. The day we came in though my gps took us up and over the mountain and was aveeacherous drive. We have never been to gatlinburg before so were depending on GPS to get us there. A detailed turn by runnin your website of the EASIEST route into gatlinburg and therefore your chale office would help. We were late getting there and the late arrival closet was perfect. Cluck only I called before the office closed to let you know we were running late if I hadn't I don't know how I would have known. Do again on website blurb if late call for directions. Overall great time was had and we roll return.

Summer few day stay
Peaceful retreat from overcrowded and commercialized Gatlinburgh; major issue is lack of wifi which should be standard nowadays. Also living room furniture not conducive to lounging (sofa short) - generally very basic rental type decor and furnishings. deck does not get afternoon sun but the views are majestic. The grill on the deck was removed. Because the deck is the biggest attribute of the property, it would have been nice for it to be made more charming (plants/chimes/clock/temperature gauge/barometer)

We have always loved this view.. chalet is still looking over aged and a bit run down. Trees are now overgrown and blocking much of the beautiful view. Chalet got hot at night especially upstairs. Property upgrades helped but more to do.. 1990 TV still there and horrible reception. No music system. A bit disappointing ... the hot tub was in good shape and we enjoyed time on the deck. The grill is gone so was had we had not planed t use it this time.
