Beautiful view
We first stayed here in 2000 after my Dad passed away. The place was beautiful with nice accommodations. 22 years later the place smelled musty, the ac didn't cool the upstairs, the hot tub didn't work. I swept quite a few bugs up while there along with hand smears which we on the bathroom mirror. We appreciate all the help from the rental office but we will not be renting there again.

Great Value
We enjoyed our stay. It fit our budget well. The cabin could use some maintenance. Roof leak in bedroom. Exterior paint peeling. Several lights and outlets not operating. Loose tub faucet handle. Hot tub was almost empty. Could use a deep clean. Carpet needs replacing.

Description needs improved
The pictures of the house are outdated. You cannot see a view due to overgrown trees. It is not noted that bedrooms are downstairs. It is not noted that the house is on a very steep incline with a driveway that is hard to get up and lots of stairs. The house has a very musty smell to it.
It is fairly close to town and we did see a bear but it is overpriced for rentals that are better kept.

Cabin needs a lot of work
The hot tub did not work. The garbage disposal had the top floor stinking. The vanity lights and plugs in the downstairs bathroom did not work. On a positive note, the bedroom Ms being downstairs were always very cool and the beds slept great. It is very close to all of the attractions. The cabin needs a lot of work. It is very dark and dated.

Needs work
The cabin needs a lot of work. It is very dated. The hot tub made a loud sound and the jets didn’t work. The garbage disposal smelled horrible and stunk up the kitchen. The vanity lights and plugs did not work in the downstairs bathroom. It was very dark. There were little bugs in the kitchen. On a positive note, the bedrooms being downstairs were very cool and the beds were comfortable. It is very close to town. We had a visit from a bear.

On The Rocks
We had a great vacation! Our cabin was very comfortable and homey. We had a beautiful view. Road to the cabin is steep and windey, but it is well worth it. We had some issues with the hot tub but it's repair required draining and curing so we just dealt with it for our stay. Overall, we loved our experience in the mountains!

Dawn, we agree that On the Rocks is very comfortable, and we are glad that you feel the same! The large windows in the living room allow for you to see the beautiful view from the inside, as well as the outside of the chalet. We are so glad that you enjoyed your experience with Mountain Laurel Chalets, and we hope to see you again soon!

The driveway is a little steep and so are the outside stairs, but the chalet was clean and we had a nice stay.

80's Cabin
We booked this cabin as a family with 2 young kids (4y and 13m). Getting to the cabin was tough- almost could not get up the driveway the first night as it was rainy. Thankfully the next 2 days were dry, so it was somewhat easier. The cabin is in a good location as far as easy to get to Gatlinburg attractions. There is some mountain view from the top balcony, but it was mostly obscured by trees. The interior appears to have largely not been touched since the 80's- in definite need of updates. The most notable need of update is the carpet, which is so worn that we stepped on carpet tacks on transition areas. There is also a musty smell to the cabin which was semi-unpleasant. Despite this, the interior surfaces were well cleaned and all the appliances worked well. WE didn't test out the hot tub. Expect to see bears!

overall very happy with two concerns. Front door very hard to open, it was sticking after putting entry code in. Bottom step when going to lower lever narrower than the others and hard to see.

Needs updates and improvement
There are several updates needed for this property. The carpet is old and has a bad smell. I was often stepping on carpet tacks in transition areas while being bare footed. The deck has exposed rusty nails on the outside of the railing, creating a hazard to my kids and the need for me to be constantly aware of what they were doing while outside.

We reported several things to MLC. The steps to the chalet were terrible. No hand railing on the lower cement steps and rickety looking steps and railing on up. (The posting on this should be flagged as not suitable for seniors. We are quite mobile, but this place tested us.) Paint peeling on exterior. Gutters full of debris.Floor boards in both baths need replaced--look filthy. Hand railing on inside stairway loose. This chalet is in need of a major overhaul throughout.

Family Vacation 2021
This cabin has a wonderful view and great amenities. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. It is only a couple of miles from downtown which was very nice. The driveway is a little steep, but most of the cabins i have stayed out are a little steep to travel. We did have a lot of bears too, but that was exciting. A little scary at times b/c they can come up very quickly. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to family and friends. I have stayed with Mountain Laurel several times and have been pleased with their service. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.

Thank you for your review, and staying with us Cassandra! We are so glad that you enjoyed On The Rocks, and that you loved it enough to warrant a second stay. Yes, the driveway can be a little bit intimidating, but it is entirely worth it for the stay at this chalet. We love having you each time you stay with us, and look forward to your next stay.

It was a nice place, the driveway needs fixed for sure. It will scrape your car, which it just needs built up at the end. But overall very relaxing. It needs a little updated but was a nice get away.

when we first arrived did not know it was a shared drive, the AC was not working so the house was very hot, grass was very tall, the pictures did not do the cabin justice due to it needing quite a bit of work gutters were over flowing with sticks and leafs along with the deck having huge piles of sticks, just not up kept very well. company was very nice called Thursday morning and they had the AC fixed by that afternoon.

I don't review places I wouldn't go back to
We knew we would be up in the mountains, and is obvious from the picture, the rental is on a hill, but we did not know that STEEP hill to the parking area would be hard on a car - you really need 4-wheel drive. The property needs updating - the outside could use some clean-up, paint, gutter-clean-out. The inside is still stuck in the 1980's when it was probably built - some paint, new wall-paper, re-finishing the tops of some of the tables would be a good start. The hot tub only goes to a certain degree, say, that of a kinda-warm bath water? On the plus side, the king-bed was comfortable, the upstairs TV worked fine (we didn't turn any of the others on), and the kitchen had about everything we needed to cook meals, since we weren't going up and down that STEEP hill to eat out. BTW - PLEASE take the fake LED candles out - we weren't the only ones who tried to light them!!
Anonymous - Posted: 4/16/2021
Thanks for the review and we hope you were able to enjoy your time in the Smokies. The driveway can be a challenge and we regret if you had trouble navigating the hill. The key is to keep a steady foot on the gas pedal and do not stop until you reach the top. Four wheel drive is really only necessary when it snows. We appreciate your feedback on the property and will pass it along to the homeowner. The rates charged for our cabins are based on several factors including the view, amenities and decor and are actually quite reasonable when compared to similiar properties. We try very hard to reflect exactly what the cabin offers inside and out in our pictures on the website. We find that expectations can be met when reality is represented truthfully. The hot tub has a brand new pack so it was most likely a setting or an air lock causing the tub to not heat to higher temperatures, both are easy fixes. Please let us know if you ever encounter maintenance or housekeeping issues during your stay so our staff can provide you with excellent customer service. We will check out the LED candles and appreciate the heads up. We hope you will give us a call the next time you plan a trip to the Smokies.

Spectacular View at the Top
If you are looking for a view of the smokies, this place has it! The windows facing the mountains allowed us to witness spectacular views of the changing weather. The site of night time Gatlinburg was wonderful and we watched the Ober gondola make its trip several times. Additionally, the deck table and chairs were great places to sip your wine or coffee. The bedrooms are on the lowest level and are good size. The indoor hot tub was ok. It is definitely showing its age but it was nice to stay inside and enjoy. There are 2 full baths. The sun room was a great place to view the mountains as well. The appliances are good and the ice maker was a bonus. Overall, the property was clean but a bit musty. That was expected after a snowy winter of being closed up. The management company was very responsive. TVs were plentiful and cable was appreciated. The wireless internet was pretty good however, the renter should pull the device out of the cupboard in the bedroom with the queen size bed. The downside of a great view is the steepness of both the drive up and the driveway. We own a truck and were able to navigate fairly well but those with smaller cars should be prepared. Be prepared for a steep walk to the door. We left our luggage on the first deck where the bedrooms are located. Saved a lot of lifting. Warning - the indoor steps to the lower level are steep so take care going up and down. Thankfully there is a bathroom on the top living area. We did enjoy Gatlinburg. The Skylift was one of the attractions we enjoyed. The wine tasting was good as well. The drive to the Cades Loop was well worth the drive. Cherokee, NC is also a nice drive. The down town has a lot of commercial activities that appeal to younger crowds. We did enjoy the food at Park Grill, Crockets Breakfast Camp, Johnny Rockets, and Ski Mountain Pizza. We would return.

Awesome Time on the Rocks
The entire experience was awesome! Check in was quick and easy. Due to covid, your keys or access code will be in an envelope outside the main office with your name on it. This was awesome because I am a little paranoid about this whole pandemic! The fireplace had wood already supplied along with a starter log. The two wrap around balconies were amazing! We had an awesome view of downtown Gatlinburg! The driveway is tricky. However, I was able to get up and down with little issues and I had a sedan with 2 wheel drive. I would really recommend an SUV or truck with all wheel drive just in case it rains and definitely if it snows. We shared a driveway with the neighboring chalet and they had a Nissan Pathfinder and they struggled getting up the driveway each time. I mean they really struggle each time. The wifi was hit or miss. If you need wifi for work or school you might want to bring your own hotspot just in case. It was sooo beautiful, we spent most of the time just gazing at the view of the mountains and the city below.
Leroy J. - Posted: 3/12/2021
Thanks for the review and we totally understand your feelings about covid. We will be so glad when all this is behind us! I'd say you were lucky to find firewood in the house. While we do provide one free bundle of wood, the guests before you were generous enough to share their left over wood and starter log (we advise our guests to come prepared with fire starting material). The driveway can be intimiditating the first time, but the trick is to not stop until you reach the top. If you hesitate, you will be stuck and have to back down. It gets easier every time, promise. Another trick for the WIFI is to take the router out of the cabinet it is in, which can be found in the back bedroom. The view is lovely, especially at night. We hope you will be able to return soon.

Nice cabin with a great view. The hill and driveway is steep but everything else was ok. There were a few baby roaches in the kitchen but I’m pretty sure this will be taken care of. I will definitely be staying here again.

Beautiful View...Steep Entry!
The house was really nice and clean. However, the hot tub didn't work (and based on the guest book it's been that way for months) and was ice cold. The bathroom towel bar needs to be replaced as it falls every time the door closes. We called maintenance because one of the lower level sliding door locks was broken and the AC kept trying to run when we had the heat on. No one ever came from maintenance. The cabin itself was really comfortable. Beware...the driveway is VERY steep! Our car actually died out trying to get up the hill. There are a lot of stairs as well. We did enjoy our stay even with the few inconveniences.

Saw some Bears!
Information on the written materials had a couple of errors, and overall was not presented in a clear manner. Nice outside deck, comfortable bed, but kitchen not as fully stocked at other places we have been. Loved seeing the bears nearby, twice!

Lovely
The home had a very nice view. It does have steep driveway and the parking is awkward, but we really enjoyed our stay. We did have problems with the hot tub but our short stay didn’t push us to seek having maintenance come in. Open living area and my family enjoyed eating breakfast at the bar. The separate breakfast nook was perfect for my daughter to do school work.

Thank you for writing a review and we are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. We regret you had issues with the hot tub and would have been happy to help you had you called. Sometimes we are able to walk through some troubleshooting on the phone, so keep that in mind. The sun room would be a great place for school kids to jump on the high speed WIFI and do their school work. I think the new term for that is "flexcation"" where you stay in a vacation home and are able to both work and vacation. We are happy you chose Mtn Laurel and hope you will keep us in mind for your next trip to the Smokies. "

Great Customer Service
Received excellent customer service from Mountain Laurel as always. House was nice, but it is older than most of the other homes offered by Mountain Laurel. That should not necessarily be construed as a negative, however it is something to be aware of as you select your rental.

Thank you for the response. On The Rocks has been on the program for many years and enjoyed by lots of people. The uniqueness of the hot tub being inside is not found in many cabins any more, but it offers the pinnacle in privacy, while still being able to enjoy the view out the window. We appreciate you staying with us and hope to have you back soon.

Beautiful cabin with a great view!! The cabin is very nice and the fireplace was great considering how cold it was and then the snow. The driveway is steep as well as all the stairs to get in. Recommendation is to leave your luggage in the first landing as that is where the bedrooms and main bathroom is.
Richard V. - Posted: 1/31/2020
Great tip on the luggage. That would save going up the stairs outside and then down the stairs inside as both bedrooms are on the bottom floor. It is always a treat to see snow in the mountains while enjoying a nice fire in the fireplace. Please call again soon.

Love this cabim
My two kids and i stayed here for five nights for spring break. This is our seconds year to stay at “On the Rocks”. Very nice cabin, plenty of room, close to most everything, and you still have quiet and privacy. The only complaint i would
have is the driveway. If it’s wet, you may slip and slide a bit driving up. Great view from the cabin. Plenty of towels, kitchen items, pillows, blankets, etc.

Perfect location-only 5 min from downtown gatlinburg. The cabin has amazing views from every window, large living room with fireplace and spacious porch. My only warning is to be prepared to climb the stairs to enter the cabin. Stairs inside are also very steep especially if you have young kids.

Annual Fall Getaway
This is really a nice home. It was cozy and had everything we needed. Loved enjoying a fire every evening in the fireplace. My only issue were the 39 steps it took to get in and the steps inside were very steep. You really need to be careful if you don't want to hurt something.

On The Rocks
Despite the steep driveway and multitude of steps to reach the entry, On The Rocks provided a great escape for us. A maintenance issue we had upon arriving was quickly taken care of by MLC staff. The view from the deck was wonderful and watching the Ober Gatlinburg tram was fun, too. We have been renting properties from MLC since 1980 which should tell you that MLC is a great company. The only disappointment was that we didn't get to see a bear this trip.

Sweet Dreams
Loved our stay, DVR, great beds, clean, loved the grill (we used it several times). Played cards one rainy day in the sun room. Experienced Momma bear and two cubs.

Great Cabin High up in the Mountains
This was a really great cabin good views at night. The cabin was very cozy and was very clean, it had all the amenities one would expect, TVs in every room and bedrooms. The cabin had two outside decks with seating plus a sunroom it also had a cable TV package with a good selection of channels. I would recommend this cabin to others and if I return to this area I would book it again.

Very spacious economic home. Clean with plenty of towels. Needs new mattresses on both beds and a dehumidifier on the lower level to decrease the musty odor. Loved all the windows and the view of the mountains...

Our stay was amazing! We enjoyed the view of the mountains. Just wished we could see more of downtown Gatlinburg and a not so steep driveway. But will for sure be returning!

Awesome!
Awesome cabin! This cabin was clean and roomy. We were only about four miles from Gatlinburg. The two bedrooms were very nice and the beds were comfortable. The view from the balcony was beautiful. The gondola went by every day. The cabin had a real fireplace and it was nice to have a fire when it snowed. The heater worked very well. There were plenty towels and wash cloths
and the kitchen had everything you could need. I plan to rent this cabin next time we go up there.

If you have a problem with stairs, the stairs to the lower floor were steep. And the driveway can be tricky. Other than that the place was great!! Nice view, clean, all the basics were covered, easy check=in, check-out. Overall we had a great stay!!

Restful Family Get Away
We usually come to Gatlinburg before Christmas as a time for the family to be together before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We truly enjoyed our stay at On The Rocks. The house was very clean and comfortable. One of the best views I have ever experienced. Our family plans to make this house our regular vacation rental.

On the Rocks A special adventure
Customer service as usual from Mountain Laurel Chalets was excellent, always exceeding our expectations. On the Rocks is a comfortable and well appointed Chalet with marvelous views.
Thankfully we are a physically fit family so the steps from the driveway didn’t present an issue, however, they may prove to be difficult for some.
Many thanks for the memories we made here.

On the Rocks Fall 2017
Overall a nice chalet, but there were some issues. The driveway was extremely steep and parking was difficult for two cars. We had to get a running start just to get up the driveway. The lower deck was rotten and not usable. We brought food for a cookout, but there was no BBQ grill. The queen size bed was in extremely bad shape. The couple sleeping in there could not sleep because the mattress had collapsed and they rolled together. The couch cushions were also extremely worn and uncomfortable to sit in for long. Also, there was no firewood for the fireplace.

It’s alright but wouldn’t stay here again
We decided to rent this for our 15th anniversary. The upstairs look exactly like the pics and is nice. The bedrooms have drop ceilings with fluorescent lighting. Kind of like honeymooning in an office... The front porch was dug up and surrounded by caution tape. That was a little disturbing but not as disturbing as sliding down the driveway on wet leaves as we tried to come up it. It was terrifying. The view was stunning and the office staff was friendly. Just felt like the cabin was a bit run down.

Overall it was good, great scenery, great view. Unfortunately the hot tub kept recirculating all night, and it was in the room next to our bedroom. Was hard to sleep soundly. Also the driveway was extremely steep. Everytime we used the driveway the bottom of our car scraped the driveway.

Beautiful View and Bear Central!
We enjoyed our stay in One the Rocks. We were greeted by a bear after being in the cabin for just a few minutes. He opened our van door and helped himself to a bag of chips. Lock your doors! Beds were comfortable. Bathrooms were clean. The view on the deck is beautiful and you can see the tram go by on the way up to Ober Gatlinburg. We were able to use the community pool which was nice. Overall a great stay.

Long long walk up to house (described by renters). Steep driveway and small narrow parking. View good but for many many wires. Nice decks, no grill. Hot tub noisy all night long. Did not know, could not see to turn it off.

Good Value For the Money
Nice place with amazing views. Property could do with a little updating but it is a good value for the money. My only complaint was the smart thermostat was set to 55 in several programmed times, so you would turn the heat to a comfortable setting but wake in the middle of the night freezing because the heat setting returned to 55 at 4am.

The home was furnished nice and had every convience you could need. The master bedroom bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. True there were more stairs than the norm but the trade off was the view that was worth every step!

Fabulous vacation spot
The chalet was very well kept and beautiful. We were only there for a weekend so we really didn't spend much time there, but it was a great place to come home to each night. And morning coffee on the front porch with that view? Absolutely breath-taking!

Nice Place
This was our first time staying at this Chalet. It was definitely fun. The steps are a little steep. The place does need some TLC(deck paint, steps etc) but overall place is great. Love the top floor.
The hot tub was not fixed when we called the office. They called for a repairman/part but its still leaking just a FYI. Otherwise it was nice, there were a few issues that were addressed.
FYI-drive way is STEEP. Definitely need a car with horsepower or four wheel drive.

Peace and tranquility
The cabin was exactly as described. We were looking for a peaceful and quiet place to rest and relax and this hit the mark. Check in was quick and easy and the staff was quick to respond to a couple minor issues we had. The place could use a little TLC but we read that in previous reviews so it wasn't a surprise. We would recommend it to friends and overall the Smokie Mountains didn't disappoint they had plenty of colour.

Amazing Chalet in the Moutsins
This was our first weekend getaway and staying in a chalet. The Chalet was very clesn, cozy and filled with lots of items to make you fill welcome. We stayed on the deck because of the beautiful breathtaking view. I have plastic to rent this Chalet at least 2 or 3 times a year. I was able to disconnect and recenter myself. I have to tell you that I can understand why the owners fell in love with the mountains. It happened to us also.

As for the staff st mount laurel. They are so amazing and I felt so welcome and appreciated. They are very attentive. I can't wait to return.

On The Rocks 6/5/16-6/10/16
Overall, On The Rocks was great! I've stayed in many Mountain Laurel chalets over the years and this had, by far, the BEST view of the mountains, as well as a nice view of downtown Gatlinburg. Chalet was very spacious and well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay! I would just like to note that anyone with mobility issues or physical limitations may want to think twice about staying here, there are A LOT of steep steps to climb in order to get to the front door. It was not a problem for us, but it may be for others. Also, do not plan on staying here unless you have a truck/SUV with higher ground clearance than a car. The driveway is extremely steep and tricky. We could not get our cars up, I wish this had been mentioned to us when we booked this chalet. Luckily, we had nice neighbors in the chalet across the street from us who allowed us to park in their driveway. I'll definitely stay with Mountain Laurel again, just not in this chalet(unless we buy a 4wd truck)!

Great stay
The cabin was perfect size for work family of four. My wife, daughter and her friend enjoyed the hot tub immensely. Because the cabin is so high up the mountain and the roads are steep, I do not recommend this cabin during freezing conditions. Otherwise it's a wonderful place to stay. Great views and very comfortable. Lots of steps. Be ready. But even with a bad knee, I could do it.

ok vacation
Location & view of mountains pretty good. We could tell it was an older house, it had kind of a smell. We prefer a bedroom on main floor or above.
Rhonda D M. - Posted: 10/30/2015
Thanks for the comments. As you know, the hot tub is located inside the house in a private room. The smell is most likely the chemicals used to keep the water part of having the convenience of the hot tub inside.

Great!
First time we have stayed in Gatlinburg. I was a little worried because we had never stayed in a chalet but it was nice, clean and we saw many bears. We will definitely be coming back. Make sure you lock your car doors because the bears know how to open them. The staff was very nice and helpful and check in was easy.

Cabin in the Mountains
We had a wonderful stay here for 5 nights. This was our first trip to Gatlinburg and can't wait to come back again because there is just so much to see and do. We enjoyed having a cabin as opposed to being in a hotel so we could just hang and relax in plenty of space just looking at the beautiful mountain views. We even were able to see bears on our last evening here just wandering down the street. The driveway can be a little tricky but after a couple of times you tend to get the hang of it. There is not a lot of exploring space if you have younger kids. We had teenage girls with us and they were able to hike around the property but little ones would be more difficult. A couple of things I would recommend the owners to think about is: 1. the hot tub's maintenance runs are in the middle of the night and tend to wake you up around three in the morning. 2. We kept having to set the AC cooling temp down as it was preprogrammed to be at 81 at all times and we weren't able to reset it. Some days were pretty warm outside during our trip. Finally, Would be nice to have an outside umbrella to sit under, as the sun is directly on the upper deck or even when it rains. We loved the sunroom, but enjoy sitting outside in the front of the house. Overall, however, we truly enjoyed our stay.

Mt Laurel On The Rocks
The property location and the view were both great. The only negative to the property was the A/C on the main level did not cool as well as it should during the hottest days but was certainly tolerable, and the steep drive/parking arrangement was a little challenging in our larger truck, but manageable.

Great property
We stayed 4 nights. It rained on and off the entire stay. The cabin was a great place to relax. Three cautions for future guests: there is no entrance on the lower level, so you have to go up to the 2nd floor in order to go back down to the first floor; there are 39 steps to the main entrance on the 2nd floor; and the driveway is very steep, with gravel at the very top. The property is well furnished, it was very clean and comfortable to stay in. Great view, too. We loved the sunroom, spent a lot of time there! We would rent this cabin again!

Beautiful night view, close to Gatlinburg
The cabin was neat and clean. It was a very good location. It just took minutes to get down to the city. The night view of lights was awesome. We had an all-wheel drive truck otherwise with the rain and very steep driveway we wouldn't have made it up. It is not a cabin for people with mobility problems. It was an awesome cabin overall.

Perfect Christmas vacation
This cabin was perfect. The view was amazing morning and night. This cabin has all of the amenities you will need. It's like home away from home. The beds were so comfortable it was like sleeping on clouds. We were able to enjoy the jacuzzi with a fabulous view. Our children were able to enjoy the fireplace while watching a movie as me and my wife enjoyed a glass of wine and another view of the mountains in the sun room. The only issue was with the drive way being on a 45 degree angle. But after driving up and down a couple of times I kind of got use to get. Thank God it didn't snow cause I probably wouldn't have even tried to drive up or down... But I think there should be some type of notice posted on the website warning the customer about a very scary driveway. The warning shouldn't scare off customer but just warning them. All that said. my next visit will definitely be to On The Rocks cabin. Me and my family Loved it.

Clean but wore out
The chalet was very clean! that is about all the good things I can say. In some cases I think the drive way should have a rating, we drive a ford flex, and it scraped horribly. When my daughter opened the door to the game cabinet (upstairs next to the entrance door) it fell off. The game table they have listed is (should not even be considered as reason for renting). the legs our so worn from play (I bet they could not sell it for $5.00). the Hot tub broke so it made a horrible noise all night (this happens no ones fault) this would not have been a problem except because there is a pull out sofa? we moved up stairs and the sofa bed could not stand up the legs where broke when extended. the last thing the nails on the deck have popped, myself and daughter both made a mistake and went on the deck barefoot!

Nice for the family
Very nice house. The view from the hot tub was not all that we had hoped, but the view from the upper deck is wonderful. We spent most of our time out there (when we were around). The driveway is steep. Our 2010 Camry made it up fine, but did bottom out at the beginning of the driveway if we didn't go very slow, even then it did sometimes. If we return to visit again, we will look for the same house.
