The cabin was more than we could’ve asked for. Just the size for us and quite. Cabin was clean and well taken care of. This trip was spur of the moment and so glad that we got the cabin. We will definitely be back!!

This was our first experience renting other than a motel room in Gatlinburg. Winterhaven was clean, well decorated and in a beautiful area. The only negative is that we had to leave and go home. We will rent again.

A very nice well-equipped chalet that was immaculately clean when we arrived. To watch TV most of your choices required you to set up an account for a free trial, unless you used cable which had limited channels. Could not watch the football game we wanted to because it was blacked out in the Gatlinburg area. Thought we could have watched the game on one of the subscription networks but did not want to create an account.

The chalet was clean and the location was perfect for us near. It could definitely use some updating overall. Several outlets only partially worked and the one in the downstairs bathroom kept tripping. The dishwasher is extremely loud. I'll probably select a different property nice visit.

The cabin wreaked of wood smoke, and there is an animal living in the walls that kept us up at night.
Most everything else was fine though, and we mostly enjoyed our stay.

Unfortunately this was not a favorable visit for us. The chalet smelled terribly of wood smoke, so much that we had to open several windows. We had to do this every time we returned to the chalet. Also, there is an animal living in the walls of the bedroom/bathroom. It was so loud that is woke us up, it was very unsettling. We would not want to use this chalet again, or recommend it.

We have stayed here numerous times before. It used to be our favorite. Absolutely not anymore. The place was covered in flies and at night we heard either rats or squirrels in the attic and in the walls near the master bed. Never again would I stay here which is a shame considering we have stayed at this house over 5 times in the past few years.

Amber, we are so sorry to hear this as we love Winter Haven as well. We contacted the exterminators immediately once we were informed by you when you check out that this was a concern. If this ever happens again (and it does in the mountains) w please let us know right away so that we can address it and if possible move you to another cabin. We hope this was not an issue for your entire 4 day stay. We are just a mile from Winter Haven and quick to respond to these concerns when they arise.

All in all great vacation and the cabin was really nice. The only negative thing about the stay was that there was a critter running around in the walls and ceiling at night. When talking with the company they immediately sent out pest control but all pest control could do was set out traps so we had to learn to live with the critter during our stay.

It was a charming house that had all of the amenities we needed. The location was ideal to get to the National Park as it avoided the traffic in downtown Gatlinburg. Check in and check,out were seamless. We’d highly recommend this chalet when traveling to the Smokies. We’ll be back.

I was hesitant to stay at a place without mountain views but I was just as satisfied. My only wish would have been more waterproof covering over the main first floor deck. You couldn't enjoy the outside since the water came through the upper deck floor. Thankfully, the hot tub roof was solid so I could listen to the rain while warming up in the excellent tub.

Everything was amazing. A nice corner home on a hill so you didn't have to worry too much about bears or animals too close to you. The place was well kept and clean. Everything was perfect.

We stayed at Winter Haven for two nights and it was the perfect location (close to hiking trails and Gatlinburg) and set up for two people. It was very clean, had tons of amenities (hot tub was great), and we really enjoyed our time at the cabin. Would definitely return and recommend this location for anyone looking for a getaway in the Smokies!

We have stayed at Winter Haven several times and was excited that it wasn't touched by the fire. They have redone the floors, upgraded appliances and still have the wonderful hot tub after hiking the many hikes in the Smokey Mountains. I would highly recommend Winter Haven for a couples get away. We tried to have everything we needed so we wouldn't have to travel back through Gatlinburg, which can be a bugger anytime after 10 in the a.m. This is located towards the bottom of Ski Mountain Rd. If you know the higher you get the scarier the roads are, at least for me. The driveway is very steep but we had no problems with our Mazda 6.

This rental was the perfect size for my partner and me seeking a long weekend getaway in the mountains. The location was excellent being close (5-10 minutes) to downtown Gatlinburg but still far enough up the mountain to provide some peace and quiet with good (not great) views. The driveway is rather steep so if the forecast is particularly wet/icy I would exercise some caution. Even in an SUV, a couple of times we scraped the bottom of our vehicle pulling out.
The rental was spacious and well appointed for two people, though I would not have wanted to stay there with any more people than that. The rental itself was clean, however perhaps a little worse for wear. It looked as though there had been some updates (flooring and fixtures), though corners had definitely been cut wherever possible. If you’re looking for an updated cabin/chalet this probably isn’t for you. Paint was peeling on the exterior and the porch and decks appeared to be in need of some rehabilitation. There was some visible mold on the bathroom walls and the downstairs shower and toilet were a bit slow to drain. Additionally, it seemed as though the hot water heater was either old or undersized as the hot water seemed to be running out by the time two people had showered and there wasn’t enough to fill the jacuzzi tub even half way before the water began to run cold.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay even with these minor issues. Checkin/checkout were easy and I really appreciated the health and safety considerations taken by the management company. We have rented properties from Mountain Laurel before and will certainly do so again.

Thank you for the review and we are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Winter Haven. This one bedroom is the perfect size for a couple looking for an affordable getaway or a romantic celebration. It's very easy to pop downtown (5 minute drive as you mentioned) for a dinner out, or you can chose to stay in and cook your own meals in the fully-furnished kitchen. We have just entered the time of year we perform our Deep Clean, so the house will be serviced very soon. Maintenance has cleared the drains and the water heaters is working properly. The owner is planning to replace the rest of the carpet upstairs in the near future. We appreciate your suggestions and hope you will come see us again soon.

This house was perfect for our vacation. The location is perfect - close to the park and close to the strip, downtown Gatlinburg. We spend most of our time hiking when we visit the mountains so being able to quickly get into the park and reach the trails is important to us. This house was the perfect size for me and my husband. The hot tub was great to relax after difficult hikes but it would be nice to have lattice or something to make the area more private. The roads in this area are steep and narrow - would really benefit from the outer edges having reflective stripes. We came around a bend one night face to face with a fire truck. We had to back up on the dark road around the curve to find a spot wide enough that we both could fit to pass. One night there was a car that went off the side of the road into the ditch in front of the house. The driveway here is also a little steep and was slippery with the rain we had and wet leaves. These really are minor complaints though - we would stay here again and we’ve never repeated a location in the 7 years we’ve been visiting regularly. We saw 2 small bears run across the driveway!

I’m so glad we booked Winter Haven. The chalet was very cozy and suited our needs. We were hoping to see a bear from the safety of one of the balconies but never did. Staff at Mountain Laurel Chalets were very accommodating and it was so nice to be able to use the bypass and not have to travel through downtown Gatlinburg. The only negative to the trip is that driving a car, I couldn’t avoid bottoming out my car when entering or exiting the driveway, no matter what angle I tried. The first night we were there, the stereo system randomly turned on at midnight, but we embrace the little thrills/scares LOL! The Chalet was very clean and the furniture was comfy! We would definitely stay again - just next time with a SUV that won’t scape up my leased vehicle.

Well, we were on our way up to the chalet after recieving the keys from the office to be greeted by mama bear and her FOUR Cubs! Beautiful chalet. We had a very nice stay. Very clean, excellent amenities, and a nice escape. Not a far drive to Gatlinburg!

We stayed at Winter Haven from September 16 - 23, 2019 and we had a very enjoyable time. The chalet was very clean and delightful during our stay. We enjoyed all the amenities and the location was nice and quiet for a very rejuvenating and relaxing time. The only drawback was all the acorns that dropped and fell on our car causing numerous small dents. Our car now looks like we have been through a hail storm.

My wife and I spent a relaxing 4 nights at The Winter Haven Chalet. Although there were no mountain views, we spent a good deal of time on the deck reading and getting away from the business of life. We saw two mama bears from our place on the deck, one with two small cubs and one with four cubs. What fun watching the cubs play and wrestle with each other. WE'LL BE BACK!

We stay at Winter Haven frequently. Love the cabin. This time, no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t get the closed captioning to work for my wife. The office tried to help but still no closed captioning. Tv didn’t appear new so not sure what the problem was. Saw bears just about every day in the morning. Once in the evening. The flood light does not work so we make sure we are back before dark.

We arrived to find a mama bear and her 3 cubs resting in the yard. We were excited! We saw another mama and 2 cubs 4 days later across the road. Had a wonderful time. Cabin was great!! Clean and well furnished. Great place to stay.

The reservation right before you had trouble building a fire and smoke filled the living room one night. The housekeepers did not report the house smelling of smoke after that, but they might not have been as sensitive to the smell. There are a few things we can try to eliminate the smell so if you ever encounter this again, so please let us know and we will take care of it for you. We hope to see you again soon.

Our 4th year staying at Winter Haven! We love this nice chaalet. It is perfect for the two of us as a home base while we hike the trails of the Smokies! I would have given more 5 stars but this time there was no grill of any kind, and the chalet could use a little updating. The fireplace does not pull very well and the smoke tends to come out in to the room - it even set off the smoke alarm! And yes we had the flue open! All the appliances work well though so that is always nice. We saw no bears here for the third year but one did leave us a present in the driveway beside our car! Overall, we will stay here again next year probably and we do love the folks at Mountain Laurel Chalet Rentals - they have the nicest staff of any rental company we have dealt with in the last 40 years of renting cabins/chalets in Gatlinburg.

We’ve stayed at Winter Haven many times for many years. It’s our home away from home in Gatlinburg. We’ve seen many upgrades to the cabin over the years. The location is perfect, about a mile from the parkway. Only drawback is there is no longer a gas or charcoal grill. But that is due to the city of Gatlinburg. Not the owner or Mountain Laurel Chalets.

This was our second time staying in the Winter Haven cabin and we’d certainly be happy to stay there again. It’s a good value, close enough to town, and has clean & well-stocked kitchen and bathrooms. It was also very nice to have the soothing hot tub after our climb to Mt. LeConte.

I have rented from Mountain Laurel Chalets regularly since 2008 and I’ve always had a great experience. They are fair, honest, friendly and respect the fact that you are spending your hard-earned money in order to make some memories in Gatlinburg, the Gateway to the Smokies. My recent weekend getaway at Winter Haven was a great experience as always. Peaceful, quiet and only a short drive down Ski Mountain Rd. to get downtown, or turn right and head right into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Great location!

Winter haven was the perfect getaway! The bed was comfortable, the hot tub was hot, and we saw a mama bear with 3 cubs! :) We enjoyed having coffee each morning on the upper deck, it was nice, peaceful, and relaxing. The place was very clean and the office staff was friendly.

Winter Haven was great. The owners thought of everything you would need to make your stay in the Smokies great. The staff at the rental office were very friendly and efficient. It was a great chalet with only two small concerns: a very steep driveway and bear sighting on property, however he ran off quickly. The chalet had everything you would need to be able to entertain yourself while being relatively close to downtown Gatlinburg (1.9 miles).
Amenities were great and the property was clean. We would highly recommend "Taste of Italy"" on 321 and the Crockett's Breakfast camp in downtown Gatlinburg. Of course the main attraction was the beautiful Smoky Mountains as we covered a lot of ground during our short stay of 3 nights. "

Winter Haven has a great location. It was comfortable for the two of us. This is a good place for a romantic get-a-way. It is very close to the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It has beautiful leaf colors outside the chalet in fall.

Our 2nd fall romantic getaway to Winterhaven and it was just as great as the first! So perfect for a couple looking to get away from it all. Close to town but you feel so far away. The fireplace and hot tub are wonderful and my husband really loves that there is a pool table so he can show off his skills and beat me terribly. We will definitely be back again next year!

We've stayed at this cabin for many years. A lot of changes have been made, mostly for the better. But it now has an electric George Forman grill. Pretty much like cooking on an uneven griddle. Because the cooking space is larger than the sink, it is a pain to clean. We don't plan to stay at this cabin anymore until the grill is replaced with charcoal or gas. Mountain Laurel Chalet is a great place to do business with and has many cabins so we'll look for another one of there's.

I slept better in this rental than I do at home. Very comfortable here, and we even saw a bear around after an hour of being there. I have no complaints, everything we could have asked for. I will never stay in a hotel again! The only thing that worried us was the steep driveway, we have a low to the ground vehicle. It was difficult to turn around in as well. But that is to be expected with the terrain!

The area was beautiful, Gatlinburg was much more developed as a city than we expected, with the chalet located comfortably close. Everyone we met was very friendly and accommodating. Our driveway was very steep and we felt, dangerous when accessing the road.The chalet picture is deceptive so we recommend you inform clients to expect to use four-wheel drive and caution. Also street sign was erroneous and manager had to actually guide us to find our chalet, which we appreciated. Enjoyed the nearby park and a steak restaurant in town.

This is a lovely cabin. Clearly intended for just two people, the property is well maintained. The location is close enough to town to make for an easy drive back from dinner in downtown Gatlinburg. It is apparent how one must have 4 wheel drive or chains if it snows though as the roads are typical mountain roads. Only three recommendations. 1) the main floor toilet is difficult to flush and 2) the fireplace does not draw well regardless of how hot the fire is 3) the towels could be nicer and perhaps have a few more available.

Clean, cozy and peaceful. Be careful upon entering the drive with lower automobiles, you will likely bottom out. The road traveling to the chalet is one of the less difficult one's.

This was our first trip to travel for our 1 year anniversary and for his BIRTHDAY...I fell so in love with the chalet everything was nice and cozy time was going bye so quickly but my husband &I really enjoyed our stay we are actually thinking about moving to Gatlinburg one day because it is way better then Memphis I hate my home town...Gatlinburg was so amazing wow the up stairs hot tub doesn't get that hot but we still enjoyed it all we didn't get a chance to try the Jacuzzi it was so cold up there 20 degrees....we will be back soon mountain laurel

Thanks for the review and we hope you continue coming to Gatlinburg for vacations and stay with us at Winter Haven! We had our maintenance department check the temperature of the water that fills the inside whirlpool and he filled it over the jets and it was still filling with hot water. Perhaps you had used the downstairs shower or dishwasher prior to filling the tub and had depleted the hot water , we double checked and it works , yes, it does get cold in the mountains! Couldn't have asked for a better weekend - great weather and a super nice little chalet - perfect for a relaxing, romantic getaway! The Rental company was super wonderful also. I had a call from them the afternoon that we checked out informing us that I had left some things in a drawer. They went to all the trouble to UPS them to my home and I had them within 3 days! Thanks so much for caring - these were some meds that I needed badly and it would have cost a fortune to replace! Everyone we dealt with was just so nice and friendly and we will definitely stay with Mountain Laurel Chalets again and tell all of our friends about them. :)

We had a great time at Winter Haven. Our only problem was the driveway being so steep, but that comes with staying in the mountains. We enjoyed the pool table, hot tub & whirlpool tub. It was a very cozy chalet, especially having the creek stone fireplace. Thoroughly enjoyed it, & will probably ask for this chalet again in the future.

You chalet proved to be a most peaceful/tranquil stay for us. Everything was great. The only thing we would have to say that would be a negative is the couch in the living room was very uncomfortable. I have a bad back & hips and after just a couple hours watching a movie was pretty miserable. I ended up having to always sit on the wood chairs for the remainder of our stay. Not very comfortable/relaxing. Maybe you could spring for some new furniture.

Winter Haven has always been our favorite cabin. This year there was changes made after we'd made our reservation. Most disappointing was the electric grill. It was hard to clean at the kitchen sink. Didn't look very healthy to reuse without cleaning it first. I hope the owner puts a charcoal grill back.
We had a bear hanging out at the cabin. He slept under the deck. It was exciting and I bit scary at the same time. Office personnel was great about answering our questions. We gave him his space and wait for him to leave. He was there 5 mornings out of 7. Usually gone by 9:00 am. We would stay again, just hope the owner goes back to charcoal grill. I gave you 4 stars instead of 5 because of the grill.

Thanks for the comments and we are happy you enjoyed Winter Haven. The City of Gatlinburg has adopted a fire safety code that eliminates open flame grills on combustible decks, so the charcoal grill was removed and an electric one put in it's aren't crazy about it either, but it's the way it is. The bear, on the other hand, has been evacuated. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency worked with us to get the bear out from under the house (back into the woods) and the lattice siding was replaced with a stronger material that he won't be able to get through as easily. We hope we have seen the last of him, as I can imagine having morning coffee with a bear sleeping below you would be quite an experience. At least you have a good story to tell your friends. We look forward to seeing you at Winter Haven again soon.

Reserving the property was very simple. Not a lot of time to get processed and confirmed. Payments by credit card was a plus. We were able to make memories for years to come. So thankful for the 42 years of marriage. God has truly blessed us with his goodness. The chalet was very quiet and peaceful. Only squirrels, chip monks, an owl, and some black bears entertained us. No harm, no scares. We enjoy the sounds and activities of nature when it is undisturbed.

But by the grace of God there were a couple of men just checking in. They had the code to the box that held our key and directions. We had a wonderful time. Saw a bear's bottom as he ran away. it was 2 o'clock in the morning and pouring rain when we got there once we look at the map though we had absolutely no trouble finding our cabin but when we got to our cabin the key that had given us to unlock the front door and broke off the second I put it in the door but that was resolved the very next day but other than that it was a wonderful day and a great captain

Didn't know how steep the hill to pull into the driveway would be, thank goodness our car didn’t sit too low and was small enough to turn around up top so you didn’t have to worry about backing out down this crazy hill. We tried to find a cabin more secluded and didn't realize there would be neighbors as close as they were - least the trees did a good job and no one was renting a cabin directly next to us so we had a little more privacy. Was very happy with everything, I’d recommend BYOB though – not the place you want to go out drinking and have to worry about getting home.
